An Open Letter to MCAN

Janet Hartke Bowser
President
Board of Directors
MCAN

Dear Ms. Bowser,

I am writing to express my concern about the status and future of MCAN, an organization that has earned credibility and respect on environmental issues in the Commonwealth.

I am a co-founder of Breathe Clean North Shore and have gained many benefits from being in one of the MCAN chapters. MCAN provides an important evaluation of municipal light plants and is a unique focus for education and legislative advocacy. I have found the gatherings of leaders from across the state to be extremely helpful in sharing ideas and strategies and as a supportive group.

When the new Executive Director, Elischia Fludd, announced her departure, I would have expected---as is common practice---a statement from the board and the immediate appointment of one of the board members as interim director.

Absent information from the board, people will speculate. Every day that the uncertainty about leadership continues is corroding the reputation of the Mass Climate Action Network. The employees of MCAN deserve stability.

Many members of chapters, like me, are eager to see MCAN thrive and continue to lead progress on the environment and the climate as well as equity and justice.

All the best,

Jerry
